Still, we ride along the Oregon Trail, all to taste the sweet sip of the Vega Mainnet!
Two more busy weeks have passed, here’s what’s going on at Vega:
1. Community Call #12 ☎
We know, it has been a short while since the last Vega Community Call (linked above). Processes have been changing at Vega and from here on out, I am [especially] glad to announce that future Community Calls will always occur at the beginning of each month on a Tuesday.
Did you hear that?
The first Tuesday of every month, 5pm UTC+1/BST, tune in to the Community Twitch today to catch up with Vega.
Still unsure?
Check the Public Vega Community Calendar for the full list of all upcoming Community Events.
2. Mainnet Validator Applications - NOW OPEN! 🌠
The Vega project team will release the first version of the protocol software in September 2021! 🥳
When this happens, independent validators will be able to launch the first Vega network, kicking off the Restricted Mainnet phase. This is the second of three launch phases, in which the public Vega chain becomes live for staking and governance. More details on each of the launch phases will be made available in a separate blog post soon.
Meanwhile, a full article is available on the Vega Blog explaining everything that you need to know to become one of the validators on the first network. An AMA with Validator Candidates/The Vega Team will be coming some time next week.
Applications close at 12am UTC+1 (midnight) on August 8th 2021!
3. Update - Dodgems Incentivised Testnet Claim 🕹
As the team have been so busy buidling towards Mainnet, the UI devs would like a little more time to finalise the token claim page - meaning that those who have tokens from the incentivised testnet will need to wait a little longer to claim them. The claim link will be sent to eligible participants before 3rd September 2021 so that they receive their tokens before Vesting starts.
4. Sneak Peak - Vega ERC-20 Token Claim Page 👓
The Smart Contract and UI Devs have produced an early version of the Vega Token Vesting Website. This information comes directly from the Ethereum blockchain, and can be read on Etherscan, but is easier to read here. We will continue to build it out, but for now, those who chose to self-custody the tokens they purchased via the CoinList sale can see their tokens HERE.
Instructions - Click into the tranche you purchased (you can tell from the vesting dates: Tranche #5 = Option 1; Tranche #6 = Option 2; Tranche #7 = Option 3), and do a cntrl + F search for your wallet address. ⭐️
5. Introduction To Vega Console - Fairground Jam 🍯
In the latest Vega Fairground Jam, Candida and I went over the feature set of the Vega Console. This is a great introductory session for anyone that has yet to try the Vega Fairground Testnet or is new to derivatives/trading interfaces. Part 2 will be coming in the near future; for the time being, why not catch up by watching the video above? 😇
Catch future Vega Fairground Jam live-streams, every Thursday, 6pm BST/UTC+1!
6. Vega Builders Club Update (Trading Bot Challenge) 🤖
Last week we started a new series of VBC events around creating your own trading bot to run on the Vega network.
Take a look at the slides we made for the week one challenge, they contain useful information about what we are trying to do along with links on how to access the API docs and setting up your own wallet for use on the testnet. Once you understand all of that you can start working on your own code.
For the first two week period, we are hoping people can get connected to the test network and request market data either as a one-off snapshot or as a subscription. They can then feed this price and market data into their own models ready to calculate trading information.
If this all seems a little complex, let us help you get started!
Head over to #developer-chat in the Vega Discord and say “Hey, I’d like some help getting started with the VBC Trading Bot Challenge” or something similar. 💥
7. Vega Research Office Hours 🔍
Vega Research Office Hours has been a popular mainstay within the Vega Discord! This week, Witold (Vega Research) is back to lead a relaxed 30-minute session with the Vega Research Team where you can ask any questions on the technical side of the protocol you may have. As always, they’re happy to chat about anything else! 💬💬
These take place every Wednesday, at 12pm BST/UTC+1 on the Vega Discord Stage!
💫 And that’s all folks, until next time… 💫
