The Vega Team are baking away, how will the first slice taste?
Here are the updates from Vega:
1. Restricted Vega Mainnet - Update 🍰
The cake is almost in the hands of the community and soon we’ll be tasting the first slice of Mainnet. Whilst release expectations for the first version of the decentralised Vega network have moved slightly, we believe that it is better to cook the cake well than not to bake it for long enough (the former is fixable, the latter less so😉).
To keep the community in the loop, we’re going to release a full updated roadmap on the Vega blog coupled with weekly tech updates from the engineering team. Soon, you’ll begin hearing directly from the Core Development team on exactly where they’re at, and what still needs to be done. Questions are encouraged and people are urged to tune in each week as Vega inches towards a key milestone in the history of the project!
2. Fairground Rewards - Updated Update 🌚
Let’s be honest, Fairground rewards have taken a little longer than expected. A technical limit on the amount of Twitter claim codes that can be sent out has led the team to explore creating a standalone interface to help with claiming incentivised testnet rewards. This process has proved to take a little longer than expected and, whilst we’ve reached an alpha product, the discovery of security vulnerabilities during testing has delayed the rollout. We’re confident that this process will be sorted out before the end of the month but we will not be making any promises. You’ll have to trust us that once they’re ready, they will be with you (on the bright side, the delay is a chance for Ethereum gas fees to return to normalcy ⛽→⚡).
Whilst you wait, check out the bug reports from the first incentivised testnet activities, now live on the Vega Blog!
3. Liquidity Rewards 🌊🌊
In the Vega Token listing and LP Incentives Blog, we promised a retroactive reward for early liquidity providers for VEGA/ETH and VEGA/USDC pools. The mechanism for distributing this will be added to token.vega.xyz once ready and we are, again, very close to rolling this out to reward the earliest VEGA LP’s. The importance of testing the things that we put out into the community can never be understated; better to let the cake rise than to fall flat shortly after delivery 🎂.
To the community members, thank you again for your patience and your confidence in supporting an early-stage network like Vega. One day, we hope you’ll look back at September 2021 as the beginning of the greatest game-changer for derivatives and blockchain-based trading systems alike. Building robustly is the key to reaching that future 🗝.
4. Fairground Jam - Trading UI Development Team Q&A 🍯
As you know, the weekly Fairground Jam (Thursdays, 6pm BST, Vega’s Twitch) aren’t one to miss. Last week, I ran a Q&A with Michael & Dexter from the UI Development Team. Check it out:
This week there was no Fairground Jam as it was replaced with Chris’ hackathon workshop which you can find out about below ⏬⏬.
5. Gitcoin Grants 11 - Hackathon Workshop 🧰
On Thursday 16th, 8pm BST, Developer Advocate, Chris, ran a workshop with Gitcoin covering all you need to know for Vega’s latest hackathon.
Take a look at the recording of the Livestream for a recap of all that took place at Vega’s portion of the event. You still have until September 29th to get your submissions ready for a prize pool consisting of $10,000 in partially vested VEGA.

6. Vega Builders Club
Vega Builders Club has finally returned, with the first session back on Tuesday just passed. Here’s the brief for those new to the club 🤠:
Vega Builders Club is an initiative launched by Developer Advocate Chris to incubate and expand the Vega Development Community. Anyone can attend the VBC sessions, where devs who are interested in building on Vega can learn about the tech from the team.
All that attend the full session are awarded the “Vega Builder” role on Discord and are granted access to a private channel for club members to discuss project ideas, troubleshoot and get to know each other. Senior members that have contributed to Vega or submitted in previous hackathons will get further perks!
In this week’s VBC #5, we continued the Build-a-bot series. The session began with esteemed VBC member & former Vega hackathon winner, MarcoTor, walking us through his code creation process as well as sharing tips on how he began building on Vega.
For more info on the next one, check out the Community Events Calendar & head over to the Vega Discord and start a conversation in the #developer-chat channel
