What’s a faucet again?? 🐼 Here is the latest from Vega:
1. Restricted Mainnet - What to Expect 💡
The Vega Restricted Mainnet is likely to go live soon, and we would like to take a moment to summarise what to expect. But first, let’s recap the functionality that will be available in this version of the Vega network:
Trading will be disabled, meaning that it will not be possible to create markets and trade on the Vega Mainnet yet.
VEGA token holders will be able to delegate their tokens to validators and begin earning staking rewards for securing the network.
Governance voting will be enabled, meaning the Vega community will be able to define the optimal network configuration in preparation for the Alpha release.
Although Restricted Mainnet is a real network with value flowing to token holders, it is positioned as an extended test phase, because it is limited in functionality and riskier than networks that will follow it. It is the first step of a three-stage launch process followed by Alpha Mainnet (trading with limits) and v1 Mainnet (unrestricted trading).

2. Vega Tech Update - What’s New? 🪞
As you may know, Vega now has a mini-blog series consisting of regular tech updates from the Core Engineering Team (+ friends). These updates are designed to concisely outline where Vega is at with regard to upcoming releases and are written by the people responsible for each project.
The latest issue gets you ready for Mainnet and provides some feedback on the Staking Incentive on Fairground that took place last week → LINK ←
The next Tech Update will arrive early W/C 15th November 2021
3. Incentivised Testnet - Staking Rewards on Fairground 🪄
From Thursday 11th November 18:00 UTC until Sunday 14th of November 23:59 UTC, a new incentive will run on VEGA Fairground.
We are giving away up to 3000 $VEGA tokens to all participants who have successfully registered and completed the incentive tasks. In case of more than 300 successful participants, there will be a live raffle during next week’s Fairground Jam to determine 300 winners that are rewarded with 10 VEGA each.
Please be aware, that the UI is at an alpha stage and we involve you at the earliest point to test our network at the bleeding edge. THIS IS NOT a tutorial for beginners.
If the above text doesn’t scare you off and you’d like to try out the incentive, this is the place for you to do so → https://fairground.wtf/rewards
4. Fairground Jam - Rewards Incentive Walkthrough 🦯
The weekly Fairground Jam (Thursdays, 6pm UTC, Vega’s Twitch) are an opportunity to ask questions about the protocol and get to know the team behind Vega a little better.
This week, I ran a hands-on tutorial on how to complete the latest incentive. I walk new users through: creating a Vega Hosted Wallet (we also encourage participants to use the official Vega Wallet); signing up for the incentive; associating and delegating your testnet $VEGA; the process of compounding rewards. 🪙🪙
📆 Add Vega Fairground Jam to your Calendar & join on Twitch for future sessions!
5. Name the Font Competition - Results 🏆
After much contention, discussion, and voting we can now announce the final results for the Open Source Vega Font Competition. As seen in the visual above, the new name of the Community Open Source Font will be Alpha Lyrae! 🥇
Initially, there were only 3 positions on the podium. However, whilst Lyra (Lyrae Font) won out the voting process, there was evidence that the font had already been taken
(+ another crypto project is named Lyra). The team held a call open to all that had voted and agreed to choose Alpha Lyrae as this kept the Lyra naming convention whilst giving the font a unique name.
Therefore, there will be an additional First Place Prize awarded to the community member that suggested Alpha Lyrae (@jbleouf).
Some Background Information 🧠
Vega is the brightest star in the northern constellation of Lyra. It has the Bayer designation α Lyrae, which is Latinised to Alpha Lyrae and abbreviated Alpha Lyr or α Lyr.
Prize Distribution 😋
@jbleouf - 100 $VEGA
@Andromeda - 100 $VEGA
@Dartgh - 50 $VEGA
@Tocqueville - 50 $VEGA
If you’d like to have some fun, check out the original thread and have a read of some of the entries submitted by the VEGA Community → LINK ←
The font itself will be released to the community once we receive the final file from the design team (they’re taking their time 🥱)
6. Social Media Specialist - Apply Now! 🎠🎠🎠
Vega is still hiring for Social Media and Marketing related roles. These roles are crucial in boosting Vega’s Marketing efforts (as we approach the next stage in the Vega life cycle). For the Social Media Specialist, you’ll need to draft a quick tweetstorm when applying, but that shouldn’t be any trouble for the gifted people reading this.
Check out the Open Jobs section on the Vega Website to apply 🤗.
🎗️That’s all for this week, stay alert, see you in 2 more🎗️
