Before we begin, let's take a moment to remember that, yes, things can, do, and will go wrong in crypto. It’s an early industry and lots of ‘experiments’ are being run and some will inevitably blow up. There is a lot of noise amongst the projects that will really last the test of time, and that's what Vega aims to become. So, onward, slowly towards the true north that is the premier derivative DEX. Slow and steady eventually wins the race! 🦔
Here’s the latest at Vega:
1. Fairground Dodgems Incentive #3 - APE Games 🦍
The Vega community have been trading Solana, they’ve been trading Dogecoin, so naturally... It was time to start trading crypto’s biggest Metaverse token (by market cap). This week the community traded ApeCoin.
Each incentive carries with it a different flavour and a different twist. Ape-Games had a few of these. Firstly, the rewards structure was…shall we say… different. Instead of the top trader earning the most rewards, the goal in this incentive was to come 11th. Or maybe 6th. 15th was also good.
As well as this, participants had slightly less collateral to play with this time around, so there was less margin for error and more leverage applied to trades. This led to some quite risky trading… and a fair few wipeouts.
Overall, the Vega community really got stuck into this incentive. There was great participation and lots of lively discussion. As usual, there is plenty more to come on the incentive front, so stay tuned!
2. Builders AMA - New Series 🌟
The Builders Club are now hosting a new semi-regular session on Tuesdays at 6PM GMT+1. The first was Tuesday 3rd May & the community discussed technical topics with developer advocates from the project as well as representatives from the Engineering Team.
The AMA opened with a discussion on trading APIs.
This was followed by an update from behind the scenes of development in the Project’s engineering team and additional Q&A.
Finally, builders asked general questions to the team inc engineers to help with any code or projects they might be building on.
There will be more of these so keep an eye open for the next and get involved in the builders club by applying for the Ambassador Program (Applications now open again; check Twitter for the alpha)!
3. Community Call #21 - May 2022 🤙
As always, on the first Tuesday of the month, 5pm GMT+1 Vega hold the Community Call! Rather than have us explain what's up, why not watch the recording above (& join live on Twitch next month!)
4. Vega + Applications re-open! 👑
With Vega now having a full set of Ambassadors, it’s time to reopen applications for Apprentices! As mentioned above, all the details are on the Vega Twitter, so do pay it a visit → Tweet Tweet ←
Last time there were over a 1000 applications, with the top 50 making it in. We can't wait to see who will join the Ambassador Community next!
5. Vega featured in Messari 🏴☠️
Messari dropped ‘Vega Protocol: An Appchain for Trading Derivatives’ - an in-depth article covering Vega at 360 degrees - including Vega’s current status, network architecture, technical structure, unique value proposition & much more.
The London Metals Exchange (LME) nickel-trading fiasco could have been averted on an open, decentralized system like Vega.
The news radiated throughout crypto Twitter shining some light on Vega Protocol - we thank all of the Vega community members & project supporters who believe in the Vega vision, enjoy reading the full article → Here ←

6. Returning to Bitcoin's roots? Barney’s commentary on CoinDesk’s #PaymentsWeek 🏅
ICYMI: @CoinDesk hosted #PaymentsWeek, article series based on crypto payment technology. Last week, there was a roundtable discussion about the future of money and financial markets - Barney reminded us of our crypto roots and expressed his thoughts on stablecoins and crypto payments, and how they will play into the future of financial markets.
Satoshi described Bitcoin as “a peer-to-peer electronic cash system,” or a digital money as private and free as the notes in your wallet. It’s a compelling vision given that payments today are a mess of incompatible national standards. Systems like SWIFT, which are useful only to large institutions, are rent-seeking intermediaries whose profits push up the cost of nearly every transaction on the planet.
7. Building more tools: The Vega Block Explorer v1 🏪🌈
The engineering team has been busy crafting Vega’s Block Explorer and v1 has been launched! Currently available on Fairground for users to check the state of blockchain whilst incentives are running. Once mainnet is launched, the mainnet block explorer will be the home of Vega’s market order and trading data.
Read more about the present and future of Vega’s native block explorer here!
Enjoy glitching your Tweets with the Vega Block Explorer GIF 😉
🐛That’s all for this week; stay strong 🐛
