1. Tech Update - June 2022 📟
The Vega Tech Update release schedule has now moved forwards! 👀
As of June 2022, Tech Updates should once again arrive in the hands of the community mid-month (as opposed to the end). This should prevent delays from pushing a pending update into the following month whilst prolonging their relevance.
The fifteenth Tech Update (June) is massive 🤯 - updates from Community (Incentives & Builders), Research (Vega Market Sim), Front-end (Console V2), and of course, Core Engineering (Snapshots, Datanode V2, Vega Capsule) are present.

2. Vega+ - New Apprentices Join The Collective 👻
As you can see from the lovely artwork above, new Apprentices have been onboarding to Vega+ en masse learning about the project, protocol, and all things Vega! Roughly ~15 new Apprentices were chosen out of ~150 applications. The new batch includes some of the most engaged Incentive and Community participants who are actively helping to improve mainnet by testing with the Team on the Fairground testnet.
Senior Ambassadors are helping triage feedback and collating things behind the scenes for the benefit of their fellow Ambassadors and Apprentices. Ambassadors are beginning a new set of content bounties centred around docs.vega.xyz and some have written articles that will go live on blog.vega.xyz in the near future. Overall, a lot has been going on; it’s fantastic to work with such a talented group of people that bring out the best in the project they represent! 🥳
3. Builders AMA #4 - Data Node Deep Dive 🧰
In this week’s Builder’s AMA, the Builders Club talked about datanode v2, which is coming out soon. The discussion focussed on the challenges faced when building the new datanode and what the builders would use datanode v2 for. Many of the builders were excited about how datanode V2 would make their lives easier, through features like the historical balances API. The timings have changed for Vega’s Builder’s AMAs. They now run at 11.30 am UTC every other Tuesday. If you want to learn more about building on Vega, it’s well worth listening in!
4. Core Release 0.50.3 & Open Sourcing - Doing It Right 🦔

Open Sourcing
Progress is being made towards obtaining a fully open source license for the Vega Core Software 😋. The project is not fully open source just yet but has made big steps by making some of the KEY GitHub repositories public! 🦔 🦔 🦔

5. Vega x Voltz Labs - ‘The Future of DeFi Derivatives’ ⚡️🐦
Last Thursday, Barney spoke as the main guest on the Voltz Labs Twitter Spaces. Despite the recent market volatility, it’s great to see the DeFi community come together, as bullish as ever on the future of DeFi derivatives. The innovation in the space right now is maintaining positivity and acting as fuel for teams to keep building.
The conversations ranged from near-term innovations to long-term revolutions of the global financial system, also covering some of the challenges that derivative protocols/projects need to overcome.
You have 30 days to replay the Spaces before it expires… There is some early alpha in there, so tune in! Thank you Voltz for having us, looking forward to collaborating in the future!
6. Mega Rewards - Updates From The Scene 🍰
Over the last few weeks, there has been a series of rewards incentives running on Vega’s fairground. When using Vega, users earn rewards for making prices on markets, taking prices and providing liquidity. These incentives are designed to help the community learn the ins and outs of this system.
The first rewards incentive focused on the AAPL/USD market. With participants earning $TIM, $STE and $WOZ tokens (get it??) for taking prices, making prices and providing liquidity respectively. Since this was Vega’s first rewards incentive and everyone in the community was getting to grips with the system, prizes were split evenly among the top 100 participants. This week, the rewards incentive was expanded to three markets - BTC/USD, UNI/DAI monthly and the AAVE/DAI market. Participants earned $MAK tokens for being price makers, $TAK tokens for being price takers and $LIQ tokens for providing liquidity. The community had the difficult job of working out which markets it was most lucrative to make prices on, and which markets it was most lucrative to provide liquidity on. There was great participation and it was great to see some participants really get the hang of it and rack up their rewards totals! 💰
7. Story Mode - The First Quiz Incentive 🍿
We've been taking a few crazy rides on Fairground lately & there are more adventures to come, but there is more variety to the Vega party…
This week we introduced a new type of incentive that focuses on learning about the protocol. Head over to Discord to find out a little more about this pesky little game.
