🇨🇴 Buenos días, damas y caballeros, nos vemos pronto 🕺💃 Here’s the latest at Vega:
1. Devcon VI - Vega in Bogotà 🦄
Devcon, the Ethereum Foundation’s primary event of the year, is an intensive introduction for new Ethereum explorers, a global family reunion for those already a part of our ecosystem, and a source of energy and creativity for all. See Devcon.org for more!
Gm queridos amigos! 🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴 Some of the Vega team will fly out to Bogotà, Colombia, next week for the highly anticipated Ethereum gathering. Quite some time has passed since Devcon V in Osaka & things post-Merge have been super exciting for the Ultra Sound Money fanatics — the Ethereum community couldn’t be more ready!🦇🔊
The Vega Team at Devcon VI
Dr. Klaus, Vega’s Blockchain OG, will be giving a talk on staking policies: “Beyond Stake: Implementing diversity policies on PoS” - Tuesday 11th October, 1.30pm (GMT-5).
Vega’s quant gurus David & Tom will be running a workshop: ‘‘Parameter Optimization and Emergent Behaviour in DeFi: Agent Based Simulations and Reinforcement Learning’’ - Wednesday 12th of October at 2pm (GMT-5).
Rebecca, Dan & Edo will be busy volunteering for the Ethereum Foundation at Devcon. More of the team will be in Bogotà, so catch them around the conference and at side events!
Just for the Community Update readers, here is the very first spoiler of what the team will be bringing with them 👀

2. The Big Fairground Recap - Incentive Governance 🍭
The Near Bear Incentive was supposed to be a fun play on words whilst running a trading incentive on Fairground. Unfortunately, it did not quite conclude as intended since the datanodes were acting up, making it really difficult to trade 🤕.
Was it only bad though? Definitely not!
From a technical perspective, the datanode problems - which many probably got to experience this week - were fixed thanks to this.
From a non-technical perspective, this incentive spurred discussion about what to do when users cannot complete the incentive. For Near in Bear, we did not have many options since changing rules during an incentive is not acceptable.
Instead, together with the community, we came up with the idea of Incentive Governance in case things like this happen. In short, if an incentive cannot be completed it is up to the community to propose and vote on what to do. It can be raffle rewards to x amount of users, keep the leaderboard as it was at the time of the incident, etc. This is a real positive outcome that hopefully is never used. But if things ever do go wrong, instead of the Team deciding, YOU get to decide what happens alongside the community; one step closer to decentralised governance.
The above change was quietly introduced during this week’s incentive (for those paying close attention to the rules of the game 😉). Of course, it is subject to change, but honestly, I’m almost excited to get to use it.

3. Builders Fair - AMAs to IRLs 🧰
The builders club keep buidling! You might remember Chris at ETH Denver talking Builders Club, well things have progressed since then. Chris & Sunny were at the @LeWagonLondon Careers Fair last week talking about Web3 Careers, Vega & Builders Club. Le Wagon students and alumni were interested in learning about new opportunities, so Chris & Sunny spoke about The New Builder’s Cohort that the Builders Club is about to launch - where people can learn how to build in DeFi from some of the experts in the space. Hop on the next Builders AMA to learn more about the program, what we’re working towards, and ask any questions.

4. Barney on WTF Crypto - Derivatives Explained 👨🎤
Barney has certainly been on a podcast streak lately 🔥. In this one, he discusses with Mark Lurie on why derivatives are so heavily traded in TradFi and why they are fundamental for the future of DeFi.
