This week we’re launching one of our biggest events yet: 🧩‘Deconstructing Derivatives'🧩!
The all-day event (2-9 pm BST) will feature demos, hands-on workshops, and panel discussions geared towards those both familiar and fresh to the world of derivatives. We'll start off with fundamental theory before diving into community-led finance, crypto native products, and liquidity mechanisms before we address the future with the leaders that are shaping it.
I figured that it would be useful to use this newsletter to break down the event and explain session by session just what we’re going to be exploring in the world of derivatives. The content progresses in complexity throughout the day and is geared towards all levels, from complete beginners to hardcore DeFi enthusiasts.
So without further ado, let’s dive in:
The day will begin with a welcome session led by Christina and Daigan (me), from Vega and LBL respectively. Together, we’ll cover the outline of the day, introduce the Social Lounge (where you can network between events🤯), and throw some questions to the audience.
We’ll then be lucky enough to have capital markets forces, Tamlyn (Vega) and Rafaella (Pods Finance), providing us with their workshop - “What Are Derivatives? A Journey From Corn Futures to ETH Options”. This will be a neat intro session for anyone looking to get an elemental understanding of derivatives, their use cases, different types, and risk profiles.
From there, we have University of Edinburgh lecturer, David Siska, who will then give us a comprehensive lecture on how to price, and risk manage these powerful assets!
There’ll then be a fun and interactive session with Dan Danay (Keytango), Andrey Belyakov (Opium Protocol) & Abel Tedros (Abel's Abstracts) which will be focused on DeFi, how it's eating the world of Fintech, and the role derivatives play within its ecosystem.
After the virtual lunch break, we’re kicking off with myself and Juliana, an ex-Wall Street titan, who’ll be conducting an AMA on all things derivatives. She’ll be breaking down areas of traditional finance and taking questions from our audience on the aspects of derivatives that we haven’t quite grasped yet.
No question is a stupid question 😝.
Then join us at 5.30 pm as Tamlyn returns to provide an early demo of the Vega testnet! You'll witness a new form of derivative platform in action and see some of what we've been quietly buidling behind the scenes😮.
This will be followed by our final 3 panel discussions, beginning with “Decentralising the Business of Liquidity”. Implications and trends for 'DeFi' liquidity, how to optimise incentives to maximise trading opportunities, and returns for liquidity providers are some of the things that we'll cover.
Vega founder, Barney, will host Carlo (Hummingbot) and Dr. Carson (Fractal Wealth) in this intriguing back and forth. At 7pm we'll dive into a panel on crypto-native derivatives with a focus on mining⛏. Ethan (Luxor) will be leading a discussion on “Strengthening PoW Infrastructure with Derivatives” alongside Ben (BitFarms), Timothy (BitOoda), and Leo (Anicca Research).
And finally, we’ll be looking towards the future of this industry! Join us at 8 pm to hear why Tamlyn (Vega), Stani (Aave), Mona (Melon; Avantgarde Finance), Anton (Flovtec), and David (Hehmeyer) think that the paradigm shift we’re sewing the seeds of now will fundamentally change our financial and human ecosystem.🌱
📆RSVP here, and we’ll see you when we go live tomorrow!
