Defining 'Fairness', Community AMAs, and our first Gitcoin Bounty
Highlighting the best of Vega - 13th July 2020
Before we begin, I should mention that this Community Update was actually written by our newest Intern – Daigan (that’s me 😉). I’ve introduced myself over on our forums so please do have a read and feel free to introduce yourself as well. If you’re a long-time fan, you may remember when Vega posted about Deconstructing DeFi – for those that attended, I was your host. Now, let’s dive into what’s going on here at Vega:
We have now launched our first ever Gitcoin Bounty Challenge with a 501 DAI reward. The aim of the challenge is to build a mobile-centric app (web or native) that connects to Vega’s APIs (gRPC, REST, or GraphQL) to serve as a tool for traders to monitor and manage their positions across multiple markets. Our team has set out a list of features we'd love to see and guidelines to be in with a chance of being awarded the bounty. If you're accepted as a participant, you'll receive early access to the private Testnet and both guidance and documentation from the Vega team. We're running this bounty until July 20th - start by joining our developer-focused discord chat, or check out the community forum.
Ashley, one of Vega's core devs, has gifted the community with a write up on how to cross-compile the Vega core node software using GO, CGO, and XGO. This means that future Vega node operators can get smoothly up and running despite having a different operating system and hardware set-up. See the extensive list of shared resources here.
How to ensure fair trading conditions with an on-chain order book is a hot topic. Dr. Klaus Kursawe, Vega's lead researcher has now published his research that addresses this at the consensus layer. We followed this with our big AMA to ask Klaus about ‘Wendy’, ‘flocking’, and how traders can be assured their trades will be processed transparently, equitable and free. Klaus did a fantastic job responding to the questions in great depth - we all learned a lot!
Immediately after the AMA, we joined Cosmos for their Liquid Staking Deep Dive, a lively virtual debate covering on-chain staked assets. Our very own Barney Mannerings, Vega's Founder, delivered insights on how greater asset fungibility implies more liquidity! Projects represented included Vega (of course 🤗), Gauntlet Network, Tendermint, Chorus One, Interchain GmbH.
Lastly, Cointelegraph interviewed two of our founders, discussing our vision and how we have our own take on DeFi.
Whilst I await the return of IRL conferences, here is a recent memory from Deconstructing DeFi where you can see Danny from Vega talking about Lemming-Like Irrationality and Mirco Markets among other things.
