Designing Programmable Markets, Updating our Testnet, and 'Wendy the Fairness Widget'
There's a lot to talk about
Good day everyone!
We're coming to the end of July and 4 months have passed since most of the world entered lockdown. Stage-1 vaccines trials are concluding positively and governments are placing mass orders so that we can begin to get the world back on track. While everything has been slowly picking up speed, Vega has been racing ahead and this Community update is packed with exciting information. So, let’s get to it:
At 5pm BST (today!) we’re running a Webinar where you can explore how to design a blockchain for fair DeFi trading! This builds upon our recent AMA with Klaus Kursawe, where he responded to questions on his research paper: Wendy, the Good Little Fairness Widget’.
In this webinar, Dmitriy Berenzon will lead a discussion with both Klaus and Tamlyn Rudolph, Vega co-designer and ex-trader. Together, they’ll discuss Klaus' research, how it works, and why it is a necessary innovation for the DeFi space.
If you'd like to sign up, here’s the link.Tamlyn has also started publishing a deep-dive series covering Vega’s approach to the 9 fundamental functions that are required to facilitate professional-grade derivatives trading. She begins the series by outlining Vega's plans on solving each individual function while translating them over to the decentralised realm. If you are just beginning your journey with Vega, I can’t recommend tracking the series enough. Begin here!
Our Gitcoin Bounty has now come to a close. We launched our first Bounty just under a month ago and a number of developers have been working on mobile trading solutions that integrate with Vega's APIs. We'll be announcing the winner in a separate blog post. Do pass by the Developer Channels within our Discord if you'd like to remain in the loop on what's coming next.
Danny has been hard at work building (#BUIDL) the mechanisms around managing settlement assets in a decentralised, non-custodial manner. He has written up a blog detailing how we’re handling ERC20 assets and using VUSD to allow us to test our token bridges on testnet, knowing they’ll be compatible with Ethereum mainnet. This also goes with a video explaining exactly how to interact with the VUSD faucet which you can view below.
Candida has been carefully listening to user feedback on our Private Testnet. This time she’s made the charts faster and a lot more customisable. If you’d like to join the waiting list and feedback on our Testnet, take a look at her thread over on our Community Forums and sign up.
And lastly, I've started writing a small update covering the happenings within crypto that I think are most relevant to our Community. I post these every Friday over on our Community Forums. In the past, I've covered Yield Farming, DeFi growth, and interesting Twitter threads that I pick up throughout the week. Catch last week’s "This Week in Crypto" here.😉
That’s all from me for this month, I’m sure we’ll speak again in August.
