Here is the latest from Vega:
1. Fairground 0.45 Release - Important Info! 📢📢
Fairground Testnet 0.45.2 is here! 🎆
As mentioned last week, a new update to the Fairground testnet (0.41 → 0.45) is on its way. With this release comes a huge update to the Vega Wallet software (0.8 → 0.9). Please check the latest Vega Wallet release notes to see the numerous features that have been added since the 0.8 release in July 2021.
This release is quite a heavy lift; a longer downtime than usual is expected when it is pushed live on October 29th. There might also be some post-release issues. As mentioned before, older wallets & old keys will not work anymore: you need to update to a 0.9 compatible Wallet.
So, the version numbers are cool, but what’s changing? Well, on the wallet side - when you generate your keys with version 0.9, you'll be provided with a mnemonic - a set of words you can recover your keys with. Previously, backing up your Vega Wallet meant saving the key file - now you can simply save the mnemonic somewhere secure and import it when you need to recover. For the 0.45 testnet release, we recommend reading the updated documentation once the release is live → LINK ←
We are currently updating the community on the progress of the rollout via the official Vega social channels.
This brings us one crucial step closer to Mainnet! 😎
2. Gitcoin GR11 Hackathon - The Digest 🍵
In September, Vega Partner, Gitcoin launched their largest round of grants yet — Gitcoin Grants Round 11! Continuing our support for the community, Vega participated in the hackathon with the Challenge to build one or more GraphQL reference applications against the Vega APIs.
We were particularly impressed by the time, thought and effort put in with each of the GR11 hackathon challenge submissions. So much so that the team awarded each participant with an additional $300 of $VEGA on top of their allocation of the $10,000 $VEGA prize pool — Congratulations (& an extra special congratulations to ben-razor who ended up taking 1st prize) 🎉🎉

3. Vega Tech Update - What’s New? ✨
As you may know, Vega now has a mini-blog series consisting of regular tech updates from the Core Engineering Team (+ friends). These updates are designed to concisely outline where Vega is at with regard to upcoming releases and are written by the people responsible for each project.
The latest issue contains a sneak peek into the Vega token front-end and is readable here → LINK ←.
The next Tech Update will arrive early W/C 1st November 2021
4. Fairground Jam - Q&A with Nelson 🎈
The weekly Fairground Jam (Thursdays, 6pm BST, Vega’s Twitch) are an opportunity to ask questions about the protocol and get to know the team behind Vega a little better. This week, I ran a Q&A with an extra special guest from the wider Vega Community. Say hello to Vega Moderator, Nelson, and learn a little about our thoughts on the Vega Community (& how we can improve it):
📆 Add Vega Fairground Jam to your Calendar & join on Twitch for future sessions!
5. Name the Font Competition - Judging Begins! 🎭
If you had a read of the blog post, you’ll know that Vega has created an Open Source Font for the community to use how they like, free of charge (a lot went into the creation process).
If you read the last Community Update, you’ll know that we opened the naming process up to the community via a competition (100 $VEGA for the winner 🤑).
Well, we are overwhelmingly happy to say that we received a total of 307 entries and are currently voting on the winning names amongst the team.
The winner (+ runners up) will be announced on 2nd November 2021 via the Vega social channels. Fingers crossed 🤞
6. Social Media Specialist - Apply Now! 🎠🎠🎠
A few weeks ago, I might’ve told you that Vega is hiring. That’s still true but now we have a Social Media Specialist post available and we want to fill it ASAP! This role will be crucial to drastically boost Vega’s Marketing efforts (as we approach the next stage in the Vega life cycle). You’ll need to draft a quick tweetstorm when applying, but that shouldn’t be any trouble for the gifted people reading this.
Check out the Open Jobs section on the Vega Website to apply 😋.
🌲That’s all for this week, stay grounded, see you in 2 more🌲
